I'm an Associate Professor at Kingsborough Community College (KCC) of the City University of New York (CUNY).
I teach courses in Earth and Planetary Sciences (Introduction to Earth Science and Introduction to Astronomy). These cover from Big Bang through to birth and evolution of the Solar System. We explore formation, processes and change in lectures and practical laboratories. I use examples from active research, showing the latest techniques in Planetary Science. I utilize the urban environment in order to add relevance and context to the course contents. The KCC Urban Farm on campus offers a microcosm in which students study the water, rock and carbon cycles (at the same time as learning about healthy eating and food production systems). I host telescope observation nights, take field trips to Central Park and the American Museum of Natural History and set assignments focusing on intersections between urban life and Earth processes.
